Set in a 240-acre wooded estate on the banks of the River Clyde, Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort offers timeless Scottish grandeur paired with elevated guest experiences.
Guiding the resort into its next chapter is Andy Roger, a respected hospitality leader with a career defined by iconic properties, award-winning service delivery, and a commitment to team development.
Originally from Glasgow, Andy earned his degree from the University of Edinburgh before beginning his hospitality career with Malmaison and Hotel du Vin. He quickly rose through the ranks to become the group’s youngest General Manager at just 27, before returning to Scotland to open Malmaison Aberdeen and later lead One Devonshire Gardens.
In 2013, he joined Cameron House, eventually stepping into the role of Resort Director and leading the property through two ownership changes, major refurbishments, and achieving 5 AA Red Stars for the first time in the hotel’s history. Most recently, he served as CEO of Lost Shore Surf Resort. Now at Mar Hall, Andy’s focus is on repositioning the resort, delivering world-class service, and building a strong, motivated team.
What inspired you to pursue a career in hotel management?
I loved the interaction with guests and colleagues right from the start—it just felt like a natural fit. Hospitality is dynamic, people-focused, and incredibly rewarding. It’s been a fantastic career so far, and I’ve never looked back.
How do you balance emerging trends and evolving guests’ preferences?
In the luxury market, personalisation is everything. A comfortable room and excellent F&B are now expected as standard—but where we stand out is in our ability to anticipate needs and deliver truly intuitive service.
We constantly encourage the team to get to know our guests, understand their preferences, and go the extra mile to ensure their experience feels tailored and special.
Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?
If personal circumstances had allowed, I would have loved the opportunity to work abroad early in my career. That said, I’ve been very fortunate to work with exceptional teams at some truly iconic properties, and those experiences have shaped my approach as a leader.
What defines your management style?
I’d say I’m approachable, honest, and very present. I like to understand what motivates each member of my team and what they want from their time with us.
Being on the floor and supporting the team is important to me—not just to lead, but to learn, encourage, and build trust. I believe the best results come from clear communication and mutual respect.
What are your strategic goals and vision for the hotel, and how does that integrate into the hotel group’s aims?
With significant investment behind us, the vision is to elevate Mar Hall to become one of Scotland’s premier luxury resorts. That means repositioning the service experience, evolving our guest offering, and focusing on continuous improvement.
Equally important is developing the team. I want to see our people grow as professionals and individuals, and I hope to support them on that journey as we build something remarkable together.
What advice would you give to someone starting out?
Hospitality offers endless opportunities, but you have to work hard, stay curious, and be open to learning.
Don’t limit yourself to one department—understand the whole operation. The more you know, the quicker you’ll grow, and the more impact you can make on the guest experience. Push yourself to deliver consistently, and enjoy the journey—it’s a career full of purpose and possibilities.
