Basalt Volcanic Rock Gin arrives in a matte black hexagonal bottle that’s as sculptural as it is symbolic.

Basalt Volcanic Rock Gin arrives in a matte black hexagonal bottle that’s as sculptural as it is symbolic.

Inspired by the Giant’s Causeway, the bottle’s geometric form and tactile finish evoke the volcanic origins of Northern Ireland’s most iconic landscape. Housed in a sleek presentation box, it’s a gift that feels both considered and commanding – ideal for discerning clients or hospitality partners.

Founded by chemical engineers Martha Garbe and James Richardson, Basalt Distillery is located just five minutes from the Giant’s Causeway. Their vision was to fuse scientific rigour with natural purity, and the result is a gin that’s as technically flawless as it is expressive. At the heart of their process is a 600ft borehole drilled through ancient basalt rock, which naturally filters the water used in distillation. This geological foundation lends the spirit a mineral clarity and a sense of place that’s both literal and poetic.

Distilled using state-of-the-art stainless-steel equipment, the gin undergoes a meticulous process where every variable from temperature to vapour speed is precisely controlled. After distillation, the spirit is rested for five weeks, allowing its complex flavour compounds to mellow and integrate. The result is a gin that’s citrus-forward and juniper-rich, evolving into a warm, spiced finish with a distinctive savoury edge. Locally foraged botanicals such as kombu royale and sea buckthorn add layers of salinity, mint, sour fruit and subtle sweetness, capturing the wild character of the North Coast.

Basalt Gin is best served in a classic G&T with a twist of grapefruit or seaweed garnish, though it also shines in a Martini or Negroni, where its savoury depth adds intrigue. For gifting, it pairs beautifully with the Basalt glassware and also available is an eco-refill for your original Basalt bottle –  a refined, conscious alternative that never compromises on quality.

Already recognised with multiple awards – including Great Taste, IWSC Silver, and Best Contemporary Gin at the Gin & Tonic Awards Sweden.  Basalt is stocked in Marks & Spencer, World Duty Free, and collaborations with luxury hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants across Europe. It’s a spirit that speaks of place, precision and originality, a gifting choice that leaves a lasting impression.
