IHG Hotels & Resorts has officially brought its Candlewood Suites brand to Europe, marking a significant milestone in its global expansion strategy with the opening of Candlewood Suites Berlin Charlottenburg.

This is the first location outside the Americas for the extended-stay brand and comes as part of a wider rollout across Germany in partnership with NOVUM Hospitality, one of Europe’s largest privately owned hotel groups.

The Berlin property, located in the city’s central Charlottenburg district, shares a dual-branded site with the recently launched Holiday Inn – the niu Flash. Offering a suite-style aparthotel experience, Candlewood Suites is tailored for long-stay travellers seeking flexibility, space, and comfort. Each room features a fully equipped kitchen, including a microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher and coffee-making facilities, offering guests a home-away-from-home experience.

Candlewood Suites Berlin Charlottenburg also provides guests with amenities such as self-service laundry, gym access, weekly housekeeping, and the Candlewood Cupboard — an on-site marketplace for drinks, snacks and essentials, available 24/7.

Part of IHG’s growing Suites portfolio, Candlewood Suites has been a mainstay in North America since its acquisition by IHG in 2004, with more than 395 properties worldwide. The expansion into Europe reflects growing demand for midscale long-stay accommodation, particularly among business travellers, families and digital nomads.

The Berlin opening is the first of six Candlewood Suites locations set to open across Germany in 2025, with additional hotels launching in Fürth, Heidelberg, Düsseldorf, Augsburg, and Berlin Brandenburg Airport. Each hotel will offer the brand’s signature apartment-style living, designed to accommodate short and extended stays alike.

IHG and NOVUM’s collaboration follows a long-term strategic agreement to rebrand a number of NOVUM’s existing acora Living the City and Novum Hotels under the IHG umbrella. The broader plan includes 13 Candlewood Suites, 50 Holiday Inn – the niu hotels, and 56 Garner hotels, establishing one of the most significant hotel portfolio expansions in Germany.

Opening highlights across Germany include:

  • Candlewood Suites Fürth, near major shopping centres, offering one- and two-room apartments with balconies or skylights.
  • Candlewood Suites Heidelberg, located in Quartier am Turm, ideal for families and business travellers with 61 apartments.
  • Candlewood Suites Düsseldorf Airport, with 196 rooms just minutes from the airport, fitted with practical kitchenettes.
  • Candlewood Suites Augsburg, offering smart check-in and digital concierge features.
  • Candlewood Suites Berlin Airport, opening Q3 2025, catering to business travellers with excellent transport links.

As hybrid travel and longer stays become more prevalent across Europe, IHG’s Candlewood Suites looks well-positioned to meet demand — delivering the space and amenities today’s travellers increasingly expect, now in the heart of Europe.
