The hotel’s exterior still nods to its heritage whitewashed walls, slate roofs, and a sense of rural English charm but step inside and the mood shifts to something more cosmopolitan. Soft greys, natural textures, and warm lighting create an atmosphere that feels more “private members’ club” than countryside B&B. It’s boutique in the best sense: thoughtful, curated, and quietly luxurious.
Hurley House has just a handful of rooms, each individually designed, which adds to its sense of exclusivity. I stayed in Room 10, a space that manages to be both indulgent and calming. The centrepiece is impossible to ignore, a freestanding bathtub positioned at the foot of the bed. The sort of detail that instantly signals you’re somewhere that takes pleasure seriously. The bathroom is equally generous, with a walk‑in rainfall shower and Floris toiletries that elevate the experience beyond the expected. It’s the kind of room you want to linger in and taking morning coffee by the window or a long bath in the evening and the sense that someone has considered every detail.
For corporate retreats and MICE, Hurley House is something of a hidden gem. Its event spaces are flexible with capacity for up to 160 seated and can be hired exclusively. With a beautifully neutral blank canvas that can shift from boardroom to private dining room with a Japanese/international influence, to weddings or creative workshop without losing its sense of intimacy. The manicured gardens add another layer of possibility, offering outdoor space for summer receptions, team‑building sessions, or simply a breath of fresh air between meetings. It’s rare to find a venue that feels both polished enough for executives and relaxed enough to encourage genuine connection, but Hurley House manages it effortlessly.
