The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences has converted its former top-floor lounge into two luxury suites, giving the family-owned Mayfair institution some of the most commanding guest accommodation on Piccadilly and marking the first phase of a wider investment programme.

Occupying the 10th floor, the suites comprise a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom configuration that can interconnect to form a three-bedroom penthouse, a rare proposition in central London and one likely to appeal to senior executives and delegations seeking privacy with capacity. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame panoramas across Green Park towards Buckingham Palace, with the wider London skyline beyond, and each suite opens onto a small balcony.

Measuring 40 and 46 sq m, the interiors lean deliberately into the hotel’s British identity, with luxury British fabrics, bespoke furnishings and a warm, residential palette designed to make the most of the natural light. The detailing extends to the minibar, stocked with Tregothnan loose-leaf tea, London Essence soft drinks and Cartwright & Butler biscuits.

In-room technology includes Bang & Olufsen sound bars, LG televisions, Dyson haircare and Technogym equipment, while the marble bathrooms feature Paul Smith Botanist toiletries exclusive to the 10th-floor rooms. Guests also gain access to a personal concierge covering arrivals, curated experiences and departures.

General manager Edward Bracken, appointed to lead the property ahead of the refurbishment programme, said the suites offer “a rare sense of tranquillity, space and privacy” while remaining immersed in the energy of Mayfair.

The launch adds to a busy period for suite openings in the district, following the new Forte Suites at Brown’s Hotel, as Mayfair’s grandes dames compete for the top end of the corporate and leisure market. With London ranked the 10th most expensive location in the world for business trips, the capital’s luxury hotels are increasingly betting that space, privacy and provenance, the currency of the boardroom-with-a-bed, will justify the premium.

Further phases of The Athenaeum’s investment programme are expected to extend across the hotel’s bedrooms and ground floor.
