Minor Hotels has officially launched the first‑ever Colbert Collection hotel with the opening of Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze, marking the global debut of its new premium soft brand in the heart of Florence’s historic centre.

The property opened on 12 May 2026 following an extensive transformation designed to position it as the flagship of the Colbert Collection worldwide.

Housed in a landmark first recorded in 1386, Porta Rossa is widely regarded as Italy’s oldest hotel, once a refuge for silk merchants travelling through the Renaissance city. Its latest renovation preserves this extraordinary heritage — from the iconic red door to the stained‑glass motto “Per non dormire” while introducing a contemporary design language that blends seamlessly with its medieval and 19th‑century layers.

The hotel features 69 guestrooms and suites, each conceived as an intimate retreat inspired by the private chambers of a Renaissance palazzo. Expect draped headboards, textile canopies and a refined palette of leather, embroidered wallcoverings and mineral tones. Six signature suites offer immersive historical experiences, including frescoed rooms and the spectacular Torre Monalda Suite, set within a 13th‑century tower with 360‑degree views over Florence.

Public spaces have been reimagined around the brand’s ethos of “the art of gathering,” with a lobby designed as a contemporary piazza and a lively bistro bar anchoring the social atmosphere. A new gastronomic concept by Michelin‑starred chef Paulo Airaudo, launching in June, will further elevate the hotel’s culinary credentials, reinterpreting Italian flavours with modern finesse.

Porta Rossa also offers two meeting rooms for up to 40 guests, making it a compelling option for intimate business events in a uniquely historic setting — all just steps from Florence’s most iconic landmarks, including the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery.

As the inaugural property of the Colbert Collection, Porta Rossa embodies the brand’s pillars: the art of gathering, the art of place and the art of taste. Minor Hotels plans further expansion with openings in London and Koh Samui over the next two years, signalling a confident global rollout of its newest premium brand
