British Airways cancels Larnaca service after drone strike near RAF Akrotiri, as easyJet withdraws Cyprus flights and airlines review regional operations.

British Airways has cancelled its Larnaca service today following heightened regional tensions and security concerns after a reported drone strike near RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus.

The move comes after confirmation that the UK-operated air base at Akrotiri was struck overnight, prompting airlines to reassess operational risk in the eastern Mediterranean.

EasyJet has withdrawn several flights between the UK and Cyprus, including services to both Larnaca and Paphos. The carrier said it is reviewing operations and warned passengers to expect possible short-notice schedule changes.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has acknowledged increased tension on the island following the Akrotiri incident. While travel to Cyprus has not been formally restricted, officials cautioned that further disruption could occur if the security situation deteriorates.

The Cyprus cancellations follow temporary service suspensions at several Gulf airports after missile and drone attacks reportedly caused damage to aviation and hotel infrastructure across the UAE and Bahrain.

British Airways has already paused flights to multiple Middle Eastern destinations until at least 3 March, citing safety considerations.

For corporate travellers, the immediate concern is the risk of knock-on disruption across European and Middle Eastern networks. Aircraft rotations and crew positioning may affect services beyond Cyprus itself, particularly on routes linking the UK with southern Europe and the Gulf.

Travel managers are advising flexibility in itineraries and close monitoring of airline updates as carriers continue to adjust schedules in response to evolving regional conditions.
