The Business Travel Association (BTA) has launched a new accreditation scheme designed to raise professional standards and strengthen buyer confidence across the UK’s travel management sector.
The programme awards travel management companies (TMCs) an independently verified badge confirming they meet key benchmarks in financial stability, data protection, insurance and operational competence, giving procurement teams a clearer, more consistent measure of quality when selecting a TMC partner.
The association says the scheme fills a gap that has existed for too long, establishing a unified benchmark in a sector where buyers have previously had to rely on a patchwork of references, tenders and reputation. According to the BTA, the initiative is intended to “build trust” and offer businesses reassurance at a time when parts of the industry are working to rebuild confidence following recent challenges.
BTA chief executive Clive Wratten described the launch as “a significant step forward”, noting that the accreditation is designed both to recognise excellence among members and to give clients confidence in the agencies they work with.
Nine TMCs have already completed the process: Inntel, Clarity Business Travel, Key Travel, Direct Travel, Wings Travel Management, arrangeMY, Good Travel Collective, Munro’s Travel and Identity Travel.
Douglas O’Neill, chief executive of Inntel and chair of the BTA board, said the industry had long needed a single, recognised measure of professional standards. He called the scheme a “win-win” for agencies and procurement teams alike, offering greater transparency and consistency on both sides of the buying process.
The launch has been welcomed across the trade, with Business Travel News Europe reporting that accredited members receive a “trusted mark” of approval following assessments across six core areas, including client service and business continuity.
The BTA hopes the badge will become a widely recognised marker of trust, helping to elevate standards and reinforce the value of professional travel management across the UK.
