JetBlue is set to amplify its presence at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport with the introduction of a new international terminal.

Marking a significant milestone, the airline recently commemorated the groundbreaking of the Terminal 6 project, valued at $4.2 billion, underscoring JetBlue’s steadfast dedication to JFK and New York.

The forthcoming terminal will seamlessly integrate with JetBlue’s existing Terminal 5 at the airport, augmenting gate capacity and broadening the airline’s scope to accommodate additional flights and destinations.

This terminal endeavor materializes through a public-private partnership between the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFK Millennium Partners. Comprising JetBlue, Vantage Airport Group, and American Triple I—a certified minority-owned investor, owner, developer—the consortium also includes New York real estate operating company RXR.

Robin Hayes, JetBlue’s Chief Executive Officer, remarked at the ceremony, “It was 23 years ago that JetBlue launched our first flights from our home at JFK, eventually growing and taking over our modern Terminal 5 and now sending customers to more than 80 destinations, including London and soon Paris. At a time that JetBlue is set to grow significantly, we are excited to once again invest.”

Spanning approximately 1.2 million square feet, the new terminal will be situated on the airport’s north side. The project is anticipated to generate around 4,000 jobs, comprising 1,800 union construction positions, with total direct wages estimated at approximately $1.9 billion.

The development will unfold in two phases, with the first batch of new gates projected to commence operations in 2026, and the construction expected to conclude in 2028.

Upon completion, the terminal will feature 10 gates, including nine wide-body gates, along with over 100,000 square feet of retail and dining options, spotlighting locally-based restaurateurs, craft beverages, and Taste of NY stores.

Furthermore, the terminal will incorporate cutting-edge technology aimed at enhancing the customer journey, encompassing touchless systems from check-in to gates, and digital solutions to streamline the passenger experience throughout the terminal precinct.
