US carrier Jetblue will operate a daytime flight between New York and London for the first time this summer.
This daily flight will overnight at Heathrow and return to New York early the next day.
First flight eastbound is effective March 25 with the return westbound service being on March 26.
Schedules are as follows:
- Jetblue 1107 New York JFK-London Heathrow 0830-2045
- Jetblue 2220 London Heathrow-New York JFK 0825-1140
All told the airline says it will operate three New York-London flights in summer 2023.
Two of these (including the new daytime service) will operate into Heathrow, with the third destined for Gatwick.
Jetblue will also continue with its single daily flight from Boston into both Heathrow and Gatwick.
Daytime eastbound transatlantic services have enjoyed a mixed reception as some travellers prefer daytime flights both ways but many prefer the time savings offered by eastbound overnights.
Companies may have to pay for an extra night’s hotel accommodation in New York while US-departing leisure travellers may be faced with the cost of additional UK accommodation.
This must be why eastbound daytime flights (which have been operating for many decades) have not flourished as have their overnight counterparts.
Indeed it was only Concorde who succeeded in operating both eastbound New York-London flights as daytime services – for obvious reasons.
Having said this, British Airways launched a daytime service between Newark and London Heathrow in June 2022, with the flight departing New York at 0755 and arriving into London at 1955.
