Líbere Hospitality Group (LHG), Spain’s leading provider of alternative short – medium stay accommodation is pleased to announce the signing of a management agreement for Líbere Liverpool Coopers Building, a new aparthotel in the heart of Liverpool city centre.
This marks the Groups second UK city managed property and is located at 10-16 Church Street. The historic Coopers Building occupies a prime position on Liverpool’s busiest pedestrianised areas, in the vibrant Liverpool ONE shopping and entertainment leisure district, and is only 13-minute walk from Lime Street Station.
Offering excellent connectivity from around the country, and connects directly to London Euston Station, making it easy for both leisure visitors and business travellers.
Designed in 1914 by architect Gerald de Courcy Fraser, the Grade II listed landmark features a striking sandstone façade, a distinctive square tower with Mannerist detailing and an iconic arched entrance. The building, originally home to the renowned Coopers & Co department store until its closure in 1972, has since been used as retail and offices. It extends over the basement, ground and six upper floors, with the four upper floors now being repurposed for hospitality.
The comprehensive renovation preserves the building’s heritage features, including mosaic tiled floors, coffered ceilings, ornate cornices, glazed wall tiles, and timber block flooring while incorporating modern upgrades for guest comfort. Works carried out on the building include a new roof covering, façade restoration, structural reinforcements, window replacements, and internal strip-outs, providing a solid foundation for the conversion from an ageing office block into a contemporary aparthotel.
Upon completion, Libere will offer 148 stylish studios, comprising 141 studio units with kitchenettes and seven featuring dedicated coffee stations. By combining sensitive heritage-led design with contemporary hospitality functionality, including flexible, self-contained accommodation ideal for short stays or extended visits, the property is set to become an iconic example of adaptive purpose in Liverpool’s thriving city centre.
