As we reported back in March Nobu Hospitality has officially broken ground on its £360m Manchester project, marking the brand’s first UK venture outside London.
The development, led by property firm Salboy, will feature a Nobu hotel, signature restaurant, and the UK’s first Nobu‑branded residences. Scheduled to open in 2031, the 76‑storey tower will stand 246 metres tall, making it the UK’s tallest building outside London.
Founders Robert De Niro, Nobu Matsuhisa, and Meir Teper joined Salboy executives at the ceremony, alongside Manchester City Council leader Bev Craig. De Niro told attendees he looked forward to returning when the project completes, joking that he plans “to still be around” in six years’ time.
The scheme will deliver 160 hotel rooms, 452 residences, and premium amenities including Nobu dining, spa, swimming pool, podium garden and gym. The restaurant will occupy the ground floor, set within restored Grade‑II listed Victorian viaduct arches.
Salboy co‑founder Simon Ismail described Manchester as “the number one investment hotspot in Europe,” adding that the project would attract global buyers as well as local owner‑occupiers seeking high‑end city living.
Fred Done, Salboy’s co‑founder, said: “We wanted to change Manchester’s skyline — and with Nobu, we’re bringing best‑in‑class hospitality to the city of firsts.”
Sales for Nobu Residences Manchester are expected to launch in Q2 2026, with construction commencing next year.
