Sometimes a weekend is enough. Two nights, a change of location, a different light. Not far away, but different. It’s the step into another world. Sometimes the distance we need is not geographical. It’s an inner one.

The Parkhotel Quellenhof Aachen is close by – and yet it feels far away. Because it takes you to another world: spacious, quiet, full of history. And surprisingly accessible. A place that doesn’t stage anything, but has grown historically – and therefore leaves an impression.

There are hotels that tell stories, the Parkhotel Quellenhof Aachen is one of them. Since 1916, the Grand Hotel has been located on the edge of Aachen’s old town, directly at the Kurpark – a grand hotel with classic substance: the lobby is spacious, the corridors long, the staircase generous. In the fireplace hall, statement coffee table books are laid out on fine wood, the large grand piano resounds through the hotel. It’s because of the size of the rooms, the light, the shadows. And the fact that nothing imposes itself in the house. You can travel alone and sit here wonderfully, observe and relax. And after a few minutes, you have the feeling of being somewhere you can’t go otherwise. In a place full of stories that have been written in the premises since the roaring 20s. In a stylish design by the renowned style icon Anne Maria Jagdfeld.

From the legendary Hotel Adlon and the China Club restaurant in Berlin to the Grand Hotel Heiligendamm and the Japanese embassy – they all bear their signature in design. Sir Peter Ustinov once ennobled the Parkhotel Quellenhof Aachen as the “Adlon of the West”. There is indeed a connection between the Aachen Quellenhof and the Adlon, because behind both houses is the Düren-based asset manager “Jagdfeld Real Estate”, part of the “Jagdfeld Group”. It freed the Parkhotel Aachen from the chain hotel industry in 2020 and has since successfully repositioned it as an independent hotel brand.

Classic design: past meets present
The so-called favourite floor has recently been redesigned – more opulent, with the usual grand hotel character, but one that does not push itself into the foreground. Those who prefer simplicity can opt for one of the more reduced classic rooms. What they all have in common: the best quality of sleep in high-quality beds. Those who sleep here usually wake up differently – clearer, a little slower and full of anticipation for breakfast and Ayurvedic spa treatments. The spa follows a clear, holistic concept – inspired by Ayurveda, with real treatments and a lot of heart and soul. BIBOR products, a spacious pool, several saunas and a fitness area.

The city of Aachen: historical travel in the border triangle
If you want, you can stay here for the day. Eat “steak frites” in the bistro or have a drink in the Elephant Bar. Because even if you travel alone, you don’t have to sit alone in your room. The tea and fireplace hall, which was only redesigned in 2023, offers space for reading and resting. And if you don’t stay, go and discover Aachen. Belgium and the Netherlands are virtually within walking distance, here in the border triangle. Day trips to Maastricht or Liège are easy. The cathedral is impressive, the Suermondt Ludwig Museum shows European painting, the IKOB is dedicated to the present. And after that? A glass of white wine on the terrace with a view of the spa gardens. Maybe that’s the greater luxury. Aachen is not a noisy city. And that makes them ideal for a stay to switch off.

Opulent backdrop for quiet moments
Aachen and the Quellenhof: A short trip here is for people who want to experience time and history consciously. For all those who prefer to arrive rather than be on the road. A weekend in Aachen does not change anything fundamental. But it does draw attention to the beautiful things in life. And sometimes that’s all it takes. And that is perhaps the greater luxury in these times.

Arrival
Aachen is located in the border triangle and is well connected: From Cologne, Bonn or Düsseldorf it takes about an hour by train, from Mainz or Koblenz about two. Aachen Central Station is within walking distance, alternatively the hotel offers parking. A grand hotel with history. Built in 1916 and modernized with a quiet atmosphere. Tip: The newly designed “favourite floor.”

Wellness
Ayurvedic inspired spa with BABOR products, indoor pool, fitness area, saunas, treatments. If you like, you can book a signature treatment. Simply reading in a bathrobe is also allowed.

Culinary
Breakfast in the bistro with a view of old trees, light lunch on the terrace, in the evening regional cuisine with a focus on quality. Tip: White wine in the afternoon, when the light changes slowly.

Tips
– Walk or jog through the spa gardens early in the morning
– A visit to the Suermondt Ludwig Museum: no crowds, but a lot of substance
– Just sit in the tea hall for two hours, read, watch
– A short detour to Maastricht or Liège – both can be reached
in less than an hour

Best time
Spring to autumn. Especially: April, when everything is in bloom – or October, when light and colours become soft. Attractive even in winter, when the fireplace and tea hall unfold
their full effect
