Qatar Airways has placed the largest widebody aircraft and engine orders in its history, and in the history of both Boeing and GE Aerospace, marking a defining moment for global aviation.
The deals were announced during President Trump’s diplomatic visit with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar.
The landmark agreement with Boeing includes up to 210 widebody jets, comprising 160 firm orders and 50 options, making it the largest widebody aircraft deal in Boeing’s history and the largest single order of 787 Dreamliners ever placed.
As part of its long-term fleet strategy, Qatar Airways has also signed a record-breaking engine deal with GE Aerospace for more than 400 engines, including 60 GE9X and 260 GEnx engines, to power its new 777-9 and 787 aircraft. These will supplement and expand the airline’s existing commitments and include full service agreements for maintenance and overhaul.
Qatar Airways Group CEO Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer said: “This is a critical next step for Qatar Airways as we invest in the cleanest, youngest and most efficient fleet in global aviation. We’re not simply chasing scale; we’re building strength to deliver unmatched customer experiences.”
Boeing’s order details include:
- 130 787 Dreamliners – long-range, fuel-efficient jets offering 25% improved fuel use and enhanced passenger comfort.
- 30 777-9s – the world’s largest twin-engine aircraft, delivering next-generation fuel and emissions efficiency.
- 50 additional aircraft options, giving Qatar Airways maximum flexibility for future growth.
The new aircraft will support Qatar Airways’ efforts to modernise its fleet, expand long-haul routes, and lead sustainability efforts across global aviation. The airline currently operates over 150 Boeing aircraft, including 777s and 787s, and will become the largest Dreamliner operator in the Middle East with this latest purchase.
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said: “We are deeply honoured by Qatar Airways’ trust in our widebody aircraft. This record-breaking order secures a long-term partnership and puts our aircraft at the centre of their global fleet.”
Largest Widebody Engine Deal in GE Aerospace History
In tandem with the Boeing order, Qatar Airways’ engine agreement with GE Aerospace includes over 400 next-generation engines, setting a new record for the aerospace giant. The deal builds on Qatar Airways’ previous order of 188 GE9X engines, taking the total to 248, and supplements the airline’s GEnx portfolio with 260 new engines for its 787 fleet.
H. Lawrence Culp, Jr., CEO of GE Aerospace, commented: “This is our largest ever widebody engine deal. The GE9X and GEnx engines represent the pinnacle of engineering, durability, and long-distance performance. We are honoured to support Qatar Airways’ continued growth.”
The investment underlines Qatar Airways’ commitment to fleet efficiency, innovation, and long-haul performance, aligning with its status as one of the industry’s most modern carriers.
Backed by strong political and commercial ties, the deals reflect Qatar Airways’ strategic role in shaping the future of aviation and underscore the airline’s confidence in expanding global connectivity through advanced technology and engineering.
