Marriott International has taken its newest collection brand into the South Pacific for the first time, with three New Caledonia resorts joining Series by Marriott under a partnership with local operator Societe Hoteliere de Noumea (SHN). The two companies have worked together for more than 30 years, and the conversion brings one of the region’s most distinctive island destinations into a global hotel system for the first time under this brand.
For UK business travellers, the practical significance is that three of the territory’s flagship properties now sit inside Marriott Bonvoy, the group’s loyalty programme spanning more than 30 brands. Anyone visiting Noumea for meetings, conferences or incentive trips can now earn and redeem points, book through the Marriott Bonvoy app and expect the consistency of Marriott’s global standards alongside each property’s local character.
The three resorts operate under SHN’s Le Domaine du Pacifique banner and are spread across the Southern Province, in the capital Noumea, on the Isle of Pines and at Deva near Bourail. Marriott says each will keep its own identity and sense of place, with design and dining reflecting the blend of Oceanian, French and Asian influences that shapes New Caledonian culture.
Noumea property brings serious meeting capacity
The largest of the three, Le Domaine Noumea, Series by Marriott, is the most relevant for corporate visitors. Set on Anse Vata Bay in front of the world’s largest lagoon, which is listed by UNESCO, the beachfront resort offers 207 guestrooms, including 34 suites, all with private balconies and garden or lagoon views.
Crucially for event planners, the property features a business centre and seven meeting rooms, including the Laperouse Ballroom with capacity for up to 400 guests, making it one of the territory’s most substantial conference venues. The resort sits next to the Grand Casino and close to the restaurants and nightlife of Anse Vata Beach, with dining on site at Le Sextant, the beachfront bar Le Fare and the casual cafe Latitude 22. Full details are on the official Marriott site.
Nature-led options for incentives and bleisure
The other two properties target the incentive and leisure end of the market. Le Domaine Deva, Series by Marriott, at Bourail offers 120 Melanesian-inspired guestrooms with Kanak-influenced thatched architecture, set beside a UNESCO World Heritage-listed barrier reef within the Deva Domain nature reserve. It has its own meeting space and business centre, plus access to Golf de Deva, a spa, and 158 km of marked trails through a 7,800-hectare protected dry forest.
Le Domaine Oro, Series by Marriott, is the most intimate of the trio, with 48 guestrooms, including 28 bungalow suites, on Oro Bay on the Isle of Pines. It sits within walking distance of Baie d’Oro, a natural coral lagoon widely regarded as one of the South Pacific’s finest swimming and snorkelling spots.
The New Caledonia debut continues rapid growth for Series by Marriott, which is designed to convert established regional hotels while letting them keep their local branding. The brand launched in five major US cities through a strategic conversion deal, and has already reached 75 signings and 50 openings in India with The Fern Hotels and Resorts.
For travellers weighing up long-haul programmes, the addition also deepens Marriott Bonvoy’s reach in the region, giving members a reason to route South Pacific itineraries through Noumea rather than defaulting to Fiji or French Polynesia, where loyalty options are better established.
