Wellness tourism is no longer a niche—it’s a global movement.

With worldwide searches up 220% in the past quarter and the industry forecast to reach $1.35 trillion by 2028, travellers are increasingly weaving wellness into their itineraries.

Now, new data from Omio, the multi-modal travel booking platform, reveals which Southeast Asian capitals are best placed to support that shift.

Analysing ten cities across eight wellness pillars—from spa density and yoga studios to green space and air quality – Omio’s ranking highlights urban centres that offer more than just business infrastructure. These capitals are becoming gateways to longer wellness journeys, blending modern amenities with centuries-old traditions.

Singapore and Kuala Lumpur lead the region

Singapore and Kuala Lumpur jointly top the list, scoring consistently across wellness metrics. Singapore boasts 450 yoga studios, 284 gyms and over 200 wellness centres, alongside abundant green space and a strong healthy food scene. Its compact layout and polished infrastructure make it a seamless choice for business travellers seeking balance.

Kuala Lumpur, meanwhile, shines with one of the highest spa densities in the region—172 spas, or 8.7 per 100,000 residents – and 262 yoga studios. The Malaysian capital also benefits from year-round sunshine and a growing wellness ecosystem, making it a well-rounded destination for wellbeing.

Jakarta, Manila and Bandar Seri Begawan round out the top five

Jakarta ranks third, thanks to its sheer scale: over 300 gyms, 180 spas and a thriving wellness culture. It also tops the region for sunshine, with more than eight hours of daily sunlight on average – an asset for both mood and metabolism.

Manila claims fourth place, with the highest number of wellness centres overall (234), while Brunei’s capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, ranks fifth, offering an impressive 69 spas per 100,000 residents – making it one of the easiest places in the region to access relaxation services.

Wellness escapes for UK travellers

For UK travellers, Southeast Asia offers a compelling wellness escape: think Thai massage in Bangkok, Javanese rituals in Jakarta, and rooftop meditation in Singapore. With Omio’s integrated booking platform, it’s easy to combine multiple cities into a single itinerary – ideal for bleisure travellers or incentive groups seeking variety and rejuvenation.

Whether you’re planning a corporate retreat or simply want to extend a business trip with a dose of wellness, Southeast Asia’s capitals are ready to deliver – no jungle retreat required.
