Amid the recent news around jet fuel shortages, the digital ticket booking platform, TrainPal, reveals a sharp increase in UK travellers purchasing Eurostar tickets and train tickets across Europe.
TrainPal has reported a significant surge in demand among UK travellers for train tickets in Europe. Sales for the Eurostar have risen by over 25% year-on-year since last April, and 42% since March this year, signalling a shift towards train travel to reach destinations abroad. The increase coincides with heightened media coverage around jet fuel supply concerns, suggesting a growing shift in traveller behaviour as consumers look to secure more reliable and flexible travel options closer to home.
While airline operators have indicated that widespread disruption is unlikely before June, ongoing uncertainty appears to be influencing early booking patterns for both spring and summer travel. The data points to a broader trend of UK travellers opting for rail as a dependable alternative amid evolving travel conditions.
Ticket sales made by UK passengers for train bookings in France have increased more significantly than any other European country – likely due to its close proximity to the UK – rising by 98% compared to last April. Spain train bookings closely follow, with bookings rising 61% this April compared to last.
