United Airlines and Spotify have launched a first-of-its-kind inflight entertainment partnership, giving passengers access to over 450 hours of Spotify’s most popular content across 130,000 seatback screens on more than 680 United aircraft.
This collaboration marks the first time Spotify has brought audiobooks and video podcasts onboard an airline. Travellers can now enjoy an array of top-tier entertainment — from music and curated playlists to chart-topping shows like Good Hang with Amy Poehler, The Dave Chang Show, and The Comment Section with Drew Afualo — all in stunning 4K resolution with Bluetooth-enabled audio.
The new “Spotify” category has been introduced on United’s inflight entertainment system, replacing the previous “audio” menu. It features four dedicated channels: Podcasts, Video Podcasts, Audiobooks, and Playlists. A majority of aircraft will soon host a dedicated Spotify hub for streamlined access to all the content.
“This is a completely new way for our customers to experience Spotify, whether they’re relaxing with an audiobook or catching up on their favourite podcast 35,000 feet in the air,” said Richard Nunn, CEO of MileagePlus. “We’re combining premium content with cutting-edge inflight technology for an unmatched travel experience.”
Ian Geller, VP of Business Development at Spotify, added: “As a frequent United flyer, it’s incredibly exciting to see Spotify content take off. This partnership reflects our mission to meet listeners wherever they are — and now, that includes cruising altitude.”
The partnership goes a step further in 2026, when United passengers will be able to log into their Spotify accounts directly via the seatback screen. This integration will allow travellers to resume their own playlists, podcasts and audiobooks right where they left off, offering a seamless, personalised listening experience.
For those flying on Starlink-equipped aircraft, Spotify content is also available for streaming on personal devices from gate to gate. All that’s needed is a MileagePlus account and Wi-Fi login.
The move continues United’s investment in its next-generation inflight offering, with enhanced technology, expanded partnerships, and a stronger focus on traveller experience. Spotify’s inflight debut not only strengthens United’s entertainment credentials but also signals a growing demand for more connected and customised journeys — even at cruising altitude.
