The UK Foreign Office has issued updated travel guidance for visitors to Croatia, highlighting security advice for festivals, large gatherings, and public behaviour regulations.

The advisory includes a dedicated section on music festivals, reminding visitors to follow instructions from local authorities and security personnel, while also taking precautions to safeguard personal belongings. A festival travel checklist – available online – offers recommendations such as filling in emergency contact details in passports, maintaining backup copies of travel documents, and ensuring access to emergency funds in case of unexpected costs.

The guidance also warns that certain behaviours may result in on-the-spot fines in Croatian town centres, including drinking or using drugs in public, sleeping outdoors, and inappropriate attire such as walking shirtless or in swimwear. More serious violations – such as disruptive behaviour, fighting, or disrespecting police officers – can lead to fines of up to €4,000.

Travellers are also advised of Croatia’s strict penalties for drug-related offences. Possession, use, or trafficking of illegal substances – even while transiting through the airport – can result in lengthy prison sentences and substantial fines. Airports are equipped with advanced security technology to detect prohibited items, including those in baggage belonging to transiting passengers.

The full updated guidance, including safety tips for festivalgoers, is available on the Foreign Office website.  Festivals in Europe: travel checklist – GOV.UK
