Travellers booking pricier holidays this year are being urged to double‑check their travel insurance, as new data shows many trips now exceed standard cancellation limits.
Specialist insurer Just Travel Cover says the surge in luxury breaks, longer itineraries and once‑in‑a‑lifetime cruises means some travellers could be left out of pocket if plans fall through.
The company warns that cancellation limits on many policies haven’t kept pace with rising holiday values — particularly world cruises, where entry‑level bookings typically cost £20,000–£40,000, and luxury suites can top £100,000.
To address the gap, Just Travel Cover has launched Boost: Cancellation, a flexible add‑on allowing travellers or agents to increase cancellation cover on eligible single‑trip policies. The insurer says the option is already proving valuable: one customer on a 99‑night world cruise increased their cover by £19,000 to protect a holiday worth more than £30,000.
Marketing director Dale Robinson says travellers are investing more than ever in premium experiences and their insurance needs to match. “As holiday values increase, it’s important that cancellation cover keeps pace,” he said, noting that Boost allows advisers to tailor protection without forcing customers into higher‑tier policies they don’t otherwise need.
With luxury travel booming and world cruise bookings rising, the message is clear: before you book the dream trip, make sure your insurance can keep up with it.
