The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has revised its travel advice for Bahrain and Kuwait following renewed military strikes between the United States and Iran, warning that the situation in the region “remains unpredictable” .
The update comes after US assets in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar were reportedly targeted, followed by strikes in Kuwait, Jordan and Iraq, in response to the US hitting 90 military targets in Iran . According to US Central Command, the latest round of strikes was intended to “further degrade Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping and innocent civilian mariners” in the Strait of Hormuz, with targets including air‑defence systems and military logistics infrastructure along Iran’s coastline .
Although a ceasefire was announced on April 8 and followed by a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran, hostilities have resumed, prompting the FCDO to issue fresh warnings. The department notes that Iran has carried out further attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain since the agreement and could do so again at short notice .
Travellers transiting through Kuwait are advised to check with their airline and follow local guidance. Kuwait International Airport is currently operating only through Terminals 4 and 5, serving Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways, while Terminal 1 remains closed and flight schedules are reduced .
The FCDO also highlights that, prior to the April ceasefire, Iran stated its intention to target locations in the Gulf associated with the US and Israel including organisations, businesses, facilities and institutions and has previously targeted civilian infrastructure such as ports, hotels, roads, bridges, energy facilities, oil production sites, water systems and airports across the region .
The updated guidance underscores the heightened volatility across parts of the Middle East and urges travellers to remain alert, monitor official advice and stay in close contact with airlines when transiting through affected hubs.
