Tamil Nadu, India’s southernmost state and a rising force in global tourism, made a compelling case for cultural and commercial engagement at this year’s World Travel Market (WTM) in London.
With a dedicated pavilion and a high-level delegation, the state spotlighted its diverse tourism offerings, from heritage and eco-tourism to adventure and wellness travel—positioning itself as a strategic partner for UK-based operators and investors.
Led by Dr. K. Manivasan, I.A.S., Additional Chief Secretary for Tourism, Culture, and Religious Endowments, and Mr. T. Christuraj, I.A.S., Director of Tamil Nadu Tourism and Managing Director of TTDC, the delegation included leading tour operators, DMCs, and hoteliers. Their mission: to deepen B2B ties, attract inbound tourism, and foster long-term partnerships across the UK and Europe.
The showcase comes at a time of renewed interest in experiential and sustainable travel. Tamil Nadu’s presentation included its growing portfolio of eco-tourism and adventure initiatives—such as “Trek Tamil Nadu,” a Forest Department-led programme offering curated trekking routes through the state’s biodiverse landscapes. The Tamil Nadu Wilderness Experiences Corporation joined as a co-exhibitor, underlining the state’s commitment to responsible tourism.

The UK remains a key market for Tamil Nadu, not only due to historical ties and a vibrant Tamil diaspora but also because of shared interests in heritage, education, and film. London’s Tamil community continues to be a cultural bridge, amplifying the state’s culinary, artistic, and spiritual traditions.
Tamil Nadu’s participation at WTM follows its presence at IFTM Top Resa in Paris earlier this autumn. A follow-up roadshow in Paris on 7th November aimed to further tap into the French market, with tailored B2B sessions and destination briefings.
A Destination of Depth and Diversity
With seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a coastline stretching over 1,000 kilometres, and a calendar of vibrant festivals—including the Indian Dance Festival and the Tamil Nadu International Balloon Festival—the state offers year-round appeal. Its tourism strategy for 2025 includes expanding niche segments such as medical and wellness tourism, rural experiences, and coastal adventure.
Tamil Nadu’s ecological and cultural richness is rooted in its ancient Sangam literature, which classifies the land into five distinct landscapes—each with its own biodiversity and cultural identity. From the misty Kurinji hills to the coastal Neithal plains, travellers can explore a spectrum of experiences, supported by homestays, heritage hotels, and community-led initiatives.
A standout attraction is the 133-foot Thiruvalluvar Statue at Kanniyakumari, now enhanced with India’s only sea-based glass bridge and a nightly laser and sound show—offering panoramic views where the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean, and Arabian Sea converge.
A Strategic Invitation
For business travellers, tour operators, and cultural investors, Tamil Nadu offers more than a destination—it offers a platform. With infrastructure development, policy support, and a clear vision for sustainable growth, the state is actively seeking global partnerships that align with its ethos of preservation and progress.
As Dr. Manivasan noted at WTM, “Tamil Nadu is not just a place to visit—it’s a place to connect, collaborate, and create lasting value.”
