Anguilla, the British Overseas Territory in the Eastern Caribbean, has unveiled a wave of developments for 2026 that should make the island easier to reach and more appealing for UK travellers mixing business with leisure, headlined by a new airport terminal, a runway expansion and fresh airline routes.
The island’s Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA) opened its new passenger terminal on 15 December 2025, designed to significantly increase capacity and improve the passenger experience. A runway expansion, due for completion in 2026, will allow the airport to handle larger aircraft, including Boeing 737 Max 8s carrying up to 170 passengers. The territory says this could open up direct flights from major North American and European cities, a meaningful shift for a destination that UK visitors currently reach via connecting services. British and other UK passport holders can visit without a visa for up to 90 days for tourism or business.
New airlines and inter-island links
Connectivity is already improving. During 2025, BermudAir launched AnguillAir, its first major expansion beyond Bermuda, with nonstop flights to Anguilla beginning in December 2025 from Boston Logan and Baltimore/Washington, followed by a nonstop Newark service from Newark Liberty International Airport. For those hopping between islands, regional carrier Anguilla Air Services started a daily service between Anguilla and St Kitts in November 2025, adding flexibility for multi-stop Caribbean itineraries and reflecting wider moves to improve Caribbean connectivity across the region.
Hotel upgrades and new dining
The island’s accommodation stock is being refreshed at pace, in step with the broader run of luxury hotel openings set to reshape business travel in 2026. On Shoal Bay East, The Manoah Boutique Hotel has completed a full renovation, refreshing all suites and rooms, adding beach cabanas and appointing consulting chef Didier Aniès, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France, to oversee its new signature restaurant L’Étoile. On Meads Bay, Frangipani Beach Resort has opened eight oceanfront rooms and suites in a 12,000 sq ft expansion, taking its inventory to 32 rooms and suites plus a four-bedroom villa.
Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla has renovated its Aleta Pool Deck, expanded adjacent event space and reopened its signature restaurant Salt, alongside new oceanfront Mexican restaurant Lima-Limon. Tranquility Beach has added a third Oceanview Penthouse Villa with a private rooftop Sky Deck and installed solar panels that let the resort run up to 75 per cent off-grid on sunny days.
New independent openings include Karaya, a Mediterranean beachfront restaurant on Shoal Bay West from the team behind Veya, which opened in November 2025, and Route 86 on George Hill, serving Asian-Caribbean fusion from chef Raymond “Rana” Adams.
Marinas on the horizon
Larger projects are coming. Phase one of the Altamer Marina, Yacht Club and Luxury Resort, a 118-berth marina for yachts up to 250 feet with a 62-room five-star hotel, is slated to open in late 2026. The 215-acre Savannah Bay Marina and Resort and Port Nimara, a 118-berth development on the southwestern coast with an associated five-star hotel, are also in the pipeline.
