Accor is set to introduce the Mövenpick brand to the UK for the first time, confirming plans to open Mövenpick Hampshire – Old Thorns in late 2027.
The move expands the group’s premium offering and adds a new large‑scale meetings and events destination to the south of England.
The property, located on the Old Thorns Estate in Liphook, will undergo a two‑year transformation to create a 194‑room hotel and resort positioned for both leisure and corporate demand. The redevelopment will include a championship golf course, 2,500 sq m of conference and meeting space, four restaurants, a wellness centre with spa, and a ballroom capable of hosting more than 500 delegates — a notable addition for event planners seeking capacity outside major cities.
Set within 30 acres of countryside, the estate was acquired earlier this year by Dubai‑based Select Group, which has partnered with Accor to operate the site under the Mövenpick flag.
The brand, founded in 1948 and now part of Accor’s premium portfolio, has grown to more than 130 hotels worldwide. The Hampshire opening aligns with its wider European expansion strategy, following recent growth across the continent.
Accor’s UK development lead described the launch as a significant step in strengthening the group’s premium presence, highlighting Mövenpick’s reputation for culinary quality and sustainability. Select Group’s chief executive said the redevelopment aims to elevate the estate into a “world‑class resort destination” blending heritage with the brand’s contemporary positioning.
Once open, Mövenpick Hampshire – Old Thorns will join more than 200 Accor‑managed hotels across the UK and Ireland, adding a new option for business travellers seeking meetings space, corporate retreat facilities, and premium accommodation within reach of London and the south coast.
