American Express has introduced a limited-time promotion for its Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card, offering new cardholders a chance to earn up to 30,000 Rewards points.

Under the promotion, new cardholders will earn 25,000 bonus points after spending £3,000 in the first three months, an increase from the usual 20,000 points. An additional 5,000 points can be earned by making any transaction in the 15th month of Card membership, bringing the total possible bonus to 30,000 points. This enhanced welcome bonus is available until 16 July.

The Amex Gold card has no annual fee for the first year, but cardholders will be charged £195 per year from the second year onwards. Therefore, those aiming to earn the extra 5,000 bonus points in the 15th month will need to pay the annual fee.

Apart from the welcome bonus, Amex Gold cardholders earn at least one point per £1 spent, plus an extra 2,500 points for every £5,000 spent, up to a maximum of 12,500 additional points. Amex Rewards points can be converted to Avios or Virgin Points on a 1:1 basis and transferred to various other airline and hotel loyalty programmes at varying ratios.

Additional benefits of the Amex Gold card include £5 back on Deliveroo purchases up to twice per month and four Priority Pass lounge entries per year.

American Express has also enhanced the referral bonus for existing Gold Card members. Cardholders will now receive 14,000 bonus points for each successful referral made by 16 July, up from the usual 9,000 points. The referred friend will earn 30,000 bonus points upon spending £3,000 in the first three months, instead of the usual 22,000 points.
