American Express Cardmembers passing through Calgary International Airport have somewhere new to work before boarding, after Aspire Pre-Flight Hospitality opened a Calgary airport Amex lounge in Concourse A. Announced on 16 September 2026, it is the second co-branded American Express lounge in Canada.
Aspire, the airport hospitality arm of the ground handler Swissport, is giving eligible Cardmembers priority access to the room, along with activations and experiences run for the card issuer. For employers sending staff to Alberta, that is the difference between a long westbound layover spent working and one spent hunting for a plug socket at the gate.
Who can use the Calgary airport Amex lounge?
Eligible American Express Cardmembers, who receive priority access. The doors are open daily from 5.00am to 10.00pm, and the lounge sits in Concourse A near Gate A21, so it is reachable without a long walk once passengers are through security.
There are 109 seats, laid out for solo travellers and for groups, which means a team flying together can sit down without splitting across the room. High-speed WiFi and personal charging ports are fitted throughout. Those are the unglamorous details that decide whether three hours at an airport turns into billable time, and they matter more than anything on the drinks list.
Inside the Aspire lounge at YYC
Aspire worked with David Dworkind of Menard Dworkind, the Canadian design and architecture practice, on an interior intended to feel like Alberta rather than an airport. Nature-based colour palettes and calming wood panelling give the space a Canadian apres-ski character, a long way from the grey uniformity of much airport lounge access.
Catering comes from Charcut, the Calgary restaurant founded by Connie DeSousa and John Jackson, both of whom have been featured on The Food Network. The menu runs to a curated selection of small plates with table service, alongside grab-and-go options for anyone with a tight connection. Drinks are handled with Missy’s, a cocktail and wine bar recognised among Canada’s 100 Best Bars.

What it means for business travel from the UK
Calgary is a working destination for British firms in energy, engineering and agriculture, and most of them reach it on a one-stop itinerary. Air links between the UK and western Canada have been widening, with Virgin Atlantic expanding its codeshare with WestJet, which puts more UK travellers through YYC with time to fill on either side of a connection.
That makes the Calgary airport Amex lounge a policy question as much as a perk. Travel managers weighing card benefits against paid lounge passes now have a further co-branded option in Canada to price in, and the trend is running in the same direction elsewhere: operators are pushing further up the journey, as DiamondAir’s remote check-in lounge away from the Heathrow terminals shows.
The Calgary opening also sits inside a wider build-out. American Express and Aspire set out the expanded Canadian partnership as the second such lounge in the country, while Aspire itself welcomes around 6.4 million guests a year across its flagship sites and its partnerships with airline, alliance, bank and credit card operators.
At the end of 2025, Swissport’s lounge hospitality division counted 110 lounges either open or scheduled to open during 2026. Stockholm, Geneva, Manchester and Vilnius join Calgary on this year’s list, and closer to home the Manchester project will be Aspire’s third lounge at that airport. For UK travellers, that is the more immediate development, but Calgary is the one that changes what an Amex card is worth on a Canadian work trip.
