Manchester’s Grade I‑listed Town Hall — one of the UK’s most significant civic buildings — is preparing to return as a major MICE venue, with corporate and special event bookings now open for dates from January 2028.

The announcement marks a key milestone in the building’s multi‑year restoration under Manchester City Council’s Our Town Hall Project, ahead of its public reopening in 2027.

A Victorian Masterpiece Reborn for Modern Events

Opened in 1877 and designed by Alfred Waterhouse, the architect behind London’s Natural History Museum.  Manchester Town Hall has long been recognised as one of the country’s most remarkable examples of Victorian Gothic architecture . Its restoration aims to prepare the building “for another 150 years at the heart of Manchester,” preserving its heritage while equipping it for contemporary event needs.

The building’s setting in Albert Square will continue to provide a dramatic backdrop for major corporate moments, ceremonies and hospitality events as it reopens for booked events from January 2028.

A New Anchor Venue for Manchester’s MICE Landscape

Manchester Town Hall’s return is expected to significantly strengthen the city’s already fast‑growing business events sector. The building offers a distinctive sense of place, with an identity “inseparable from the city,” making it an attractive choice for corporate clients seeking a venue rooted in Manchester’s heritage and civic pride.

Among its standout spaces is The Great Hall, famed for its Ford Madox Brown murals, ornate ceiling and adjoining kitchen — envisioned as a setting for private dinners, ceremonies, conferences and high‑profile corporate gatherings . Additional rooms throughout the building will support meetings, receptions and hospitality events, offering a mix of historic character and modernised infrastructure.

Strengthening Manchester’s Corporate Offering

The relaunch of Manchester Town Hall’s event spaces will “strengthen the city’s offering,” providing a new setting for ceremonies, dinners, conferences and meetings at a time when Manchester’s business and events industry continues to grow from strength to strength . As one of the UK’s most iconic civic landmarks, the building is expected to draw both domestic and international event organisers seeking memorable, heritage‑rich venues.
