The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued updated guidance for UK travellers heading to Laos.
Effective from January 1, 2025, tourist visas for Laos have reverted to a 30-day duration. This change impacts all visitors, including those travelling for business, study, or other purposes.
The FCDO advises: “You must have a visa to visit Laos. To work, study, and travel for business or other reasons, you must meet the Lao immigration department’s entry requirements.”
Travellers can apply for a Laos e-visa online, which should be done at least five days in advance. The e-visa is valid for single entry and is accepted at major entry points. Alternatively, a visa on arrival (single entry) can be obtained at several entry points, including Vientiane Wattay Airport, Luang Prabang Airport, and Paske Airport.
Additionally, the UK Government provides essential information on areas in Laos where travel is advised against except for essential purposes.
