Singapore Airlines has confirmed it will begin installing SpaceX’s Starlink Wi-Fi system on selected aircraft from early 2027, in a move set to give business travellers some of the fastest in-flight connectivity in the sky.

The carrier, long regarded as a benchmark for premium service, will offer the satellite-based broadband free of charge to every first and business class passenger. KrisFlyer loyalty members travelling in premium economy and economy will also receive complimentary access, mirroring the eligibility rules already applied to the airline’s existing free Wi-Fi.

Starlink, which uses SpaceX’s low-earth-orbit constellation to deliver high-speed, low-latency connectivity, will be available gate to gate. The service is capable of supporting live video streaming, online gaming, e-commerce and the sort of high-bandwidth uploads and downloads that frequent flyers have, until recently, been forced to defer until they reached the office or the lounge.

The announcement is the latest in a rapidly lengthening list of Starlink agreements with major international carriers. Aer Lingus, airBaltic, Air France, Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Copa Airlines, Emirates, Gulf Air, Hawaiian Airlines, Iberia, Korean Air, the Lufthansa Group, Qatar Airways, SAS, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and WestJet have all unveiled plans to fit the system, accelerating its adoption across the global aviation industry.

Singapore Airlines already provides complimentary Wi-Fi across its entire fleet, with most aircraft currently equipped with Panasonic’s service. The eligibility criteria for free access will remain unchanged under the new agreement, but the underlying performance is expected to leap considerably, narrowing the gap between in-cabin connectivity and the speeds passengers are accustomed to on the ground.

Yeoh Phee Teik, Singapore Airlines’ senior vice-president of customer experience, said: “Fast, seamless connectivity is, today, an essential part of the travel experience. Singapore Airlines already offers the world’s most comprehensive complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi across our entire fleet. Starlink will take this to the next level by delivering next-generation high-speed connectivity, enabling customers to stay entertained, connected and productive throughout their journey, with a smoother and seamless experience from take-off to landing.”

The airline has yet to confirm the order in which individual aircraft types and routes will be upgraded, but installations are scheduled to begin in early 2027.
