The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has refreshed its travel guidance for destinations including Cyprus, Turkey, Egypt and the Maldives, following continued instability in the Middle East.
Travellers are being advised to stay alert to possible disruption, with airlines adjusting routes and schedules to avoid affected airspace.
Cyprus: Travel remains open, though officials note that the threat of terrorism persists, including in locations popular with international visitors.
Turkey: The area bordering Syria is considered high‑risk and should be avoided. Several other regions are only advised for essential travel.
Maldives: Widespread flight disruption continues due to regional airspace restrictions. Travellers should stay in close contact with their airline, follow news updates, and ensure their insurance covers delays or rerouting.
Sri Lanka: The country isn’t directly affected, but flight schedules are being impacted by the wider Middle East situation. Passengers are urged to double‑check departure times and confirm their insurance terms.
The situation has already prompted several repatriation flights for UK nationals in the region, and officials are urging travellers to keep a close eye on airline updates and government advisories. Those travelling on business are encouraged to review their insurance cover, allow extra flexibility in their itineraries, and ensure their corporate travel teams are aware of any changes.
With conditions evolving quickly, the FCDO continues to recommend that travellers monitor official channels throughout their journey and be prepared for short‑notice adjustments.
