Borgo Egnazia: Where Billionaires Holiday and World Leaders Meet

I’ve stayed in many luxury resorts over the years, but nothing prepared me for the quiet theatre of Borgo Egnazia.

Arriving feels like stepping into a dreamscape carved from pale Puglian stone, a place that looks ancient, yet operates with the precision of a world‑class luxury retreat. It’s no surprise the G7 Summit was held here; the moment you pass through the gates, you understand why billionaires and world leaders choose it when they want to disappear.

The resort is split into two distinct worlds: the family‑oriented Borgo and the ultra‑private villas. I spent time in both, and what struck me most was how completely different the experiences felt, despite being only a few minutes apart.

In the Borgo, the family villas “the Casette” sit along winding lanes that mimic a traditional Puglian hamlet. Mine was a three‑storey stone house with a private garden scented with rosemary and lemon blossom. Inside, everything is “white on white”: limestone walls, hand‑woven throws, ceramics, lanterns and soft lighting that makes the whole space glow. It felt like staying in a beautifully curated home rather than a hotel suite. The bedrooms were generous and calming, and the bathrooms were a highlight – deep stone tubs, walk‑in showers and the resort’s own spa‑grade toiletries made with local botanicals. It’s the kind of place where you unpack once and instantly feel settled.

The private villas, however, are another world entirely. Set apart from the main village, each one is a sanctuary of courtyards, terraces and a pool that feels like it belongs to a private estate. My villa had soaring ceilings, arched windows and interiors that whispered luxury rather than shouted it. Neutral tones, bespoke furniture and the kind of quiet that makes you exhale without realising you were holding your breath. Every bedroom had its own ensuite bathroom, stocked with plush linens and indulgent toiletries. The kitchen was fully equipped, the living spaces were vast, and the service was as discreet as it was attentive. It’s easy to see why global leaders stayed here during the G7, you could hold confidential meetings, entertain, or simply vanish into your own world.

What I loved most was the ability to have two entirely different holidays in one stay. In the Borgo, I wandered through the piazza, watched families gather for gelato, and enjoyed the lively energy around the pools and restaurants. It’s warm, communal and perfect for bleisure travellers who want to bring family along without sacrificing comfort.

Then, in the private villas, everything shifted. Mornings were spent by my pool with nothing but birdsong and the rustle of olive trees. Evenings were quiet, elegant and deeply restorative. It felt like a retreat designed for CEOs, creatives and anyone who needs space to think. I could work in complete privacy, take a break at the Vair Spa, and return to a villa that felt like my own residence.

For business travellers, Borgo Egnazia offers something rare: the ability to blend work, wellness and leisure without compromise. It’s a place where you can host a meeting in the morning, take a call from a sun‑drenched terrace in the afternoon, and then join your family in the Borgo for dinner all without ever leaving the estate.

What elevates the stay even further is the sheer breadth of amenities woven into the estate. Dining is a pleasure in itself, with everything from elegant, candlelit dinners to relaxed, rustic Puglian dishes served across the resort’s restaurants and bars. The food is rooted in the region, olive oil from the estate, vegetables from local farms, seafood from the Adriatic and every meal feels both indulgent and deeply connected to its surroundings.

The Vair Spa is another standout: a serene, almost spiritual space offering treatments that draw on local traditions and natural ingredients, perfect for unwinding after a day of meetings or travel.

While Borgo Egnazia isn’t a conventional business hotel, it does offer beautifully designed spaces for private gatherings and intimate meetings, and the villas themselves function effortlessly as executive retreats.

Borgo Egnazia is more than a resort. It’s a beautifully orchestrated experience that manages to be both intimate and grand, family‑friendly and deeply private. Whether you come for business, bleisure or a once‑in‑a‑lifetime escape, it delivers a level of luxury that feels effortless, authentic and utterly unforgettable.
