The newly reimagined Dexter Hotel has officially opened in Elk Rapids, bringing a design‑forward boutique experience to one of Northern Michigan’s most scenic coastal towns. The 29‑room property blends contemporary style with Michigan’s mid‑century design heritage, featuring custom furnishings, locally fabricated materials, and an emphasis on regional craftsmanship.
Developed by Shore North Development in collaboration with Kinship Hospitality, the hotel transforms a former apartment building into a modern retreat just minutes from Traverse City and Cherry Capital Airport. Guest rooms are styled as warm, apartment‑like spaces with custom white oak furniture, curated artwork, and premium bedding, while nearly every element from lighting to ceramics has been crafted by Michigan makers.
At the heart of the property is Noble Lounge, a waterfront restaurant and bar overlooking Grand Traverse Bay. Led by Beverage Director Anthony DiMaria and Executive Chef John Korycki, the venue offers a creative cocktail programme using techniques such as clarified juices and fat‑washed spirits, alongside seasonal small plates sourced from Northern Michigan producers.
The opening comes as the region prepares for increased connectivity, with a major expansion underway at Cherry Capital Airport that will triple capacity and add more direct routes by 2028, further boosting access for leisure and business travellers alike.
