Azumi Japan has announced the launch of Azuma Farm Koiwai, a new nature‑focused retreat set within the historic Koiwai Farm in Iwate Prefecture.
Opening on 23 April 2026, the property marks the brand’s latest collaboration with legendary hotelier Adrian Zecha, founder of Aman, and reflects a shift toward slow, agricultural‑rooted hospitality.
Set across an eight‑hectare section of the 130‑year‑old working farm, the retreat features 24 villa‑style rooms designed by Kyoto architect Shiro Miura. Interiors use natural materials and traditional craftsmanship to mirror the surrounding forests and mountain landscape. The project aims to preserve local agricultural traditions while offering guests an immersive, back‑to‑basics experience.
The resort emphasises seasonal living, community connection and the rhythms of rural Japan. Activities include forest walks, horse riding and farm‑based experiences, alongside dining shaped by local produce and regional culture. The design draws inspiration from the naturalism found in the works of poet Kenji Miyazawa, a native of the region.
Azuma Farm Koiwai is easily accessible from Tokyo via Shinkansen to Morioka Station, followed by a dedicated shuttle, positioning it as a new gateway for travellers exploring the Tohoku region.
The opening reinforces Azumi’s commitment to thoughtful, heritage‑driven hospitality and offers business travellers a restorative alternative to Japan’s urban hotel landscape.
