Dunalastair Hotel Suites officially reopens its doors today, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the five-star Highland retreat.
Following a thoughtful refresh under new ownership by Loch Rannoch Estate Limited, the 32-suite property once again welcomes guests to the heart of Kinloch Rannoch – where Victorian sporting heritage meets contemporary Scottish design.
To celebrate its soft launch, Dunalastair Hotel Suites is introducing an introductory 25% opening offer on stays this April, inviting both returning guests and first-time visitors to experience its revival. Guests staying during this period will also receive complimentary spa access to sister property Loch Rannoch Hotel, Estate & Spa. Now part of The Rannoch Collection, the reimagined hotel retains its historic charm while introducing elevated interiors, destination-led dining and a renewed sense of Highland luxury.
A Reimagined Highland Retreat
Set within the village square of Kinloch Rannoch, Dunalastair has long been regarded as one of Highland Perthshire’s most distinctive boutique hotels. The restoration honours the building’s Victorian sporting-lodge roots, while introducing contemporary touches and subtle, whimsical nods to its Highland heritage. Each of the 32 suites balances traditional charm with refined, contemporary interiors, creating a relaxed yet sophisticated base from which to explore one of Scotland’s most scenic landscapes. A newly created open fireplace – complete with its original mantle and surround, carefully restored after being salvaged – now forms a striking focal point, reinforcing its sense of heritage and warmth.
Culinary Excellence: The MacNab Restaurant and The Tipsy Stag
The reopening positions Dunalastair as a true culinary destination for both residents and the local community, with two distinctive dining experiences rooted in place and provenance.
The MacNab Restaurant – Open daily for breakfast and dinner, The MacNab highlights Scotland’s finest seasonal produce and game, from estate venison and Perthshire lamb to fresh Scottish seafood. Seasonal tasting menus pair game with locally foraged vegetarian dishes. Named after the legendary MacNab Challenge, a Highland sporting pursuit in which participants must stalk a red stag, catch a salmon on the fly and shoot a brace of grouse between dawn and dusk, the restaurant pays homage to this adventurous spirit. Immortalised in Perth-born author John Buchan’s 1924 novel John MacNab, it draws on heritage and respect for the land, values that continue to inspire its menus.
The Tipsy Stag – With its log fire and playful, whimsical take on red stags, The Tipsy Stag offers a warm and characterful setting in which to unwind. Open from lunchtime through to evening, it serves imaginative small plates, light lunches and daily afternoon cream tea with homemade baked goods. Scottish whiskies, craft gins, house cocktails and an extensive wine list that sets The Tipsy Stag as both a relaxed village hub and an inviting fireside retreat for guests returning from a day on the hill or loch.
During warmer months, al fresco dining will be available in the Courtyard, while a refined cigar lounge and wine tasting room are due to open later in the year, to further enhance the hotel’s distinctive personality.
A True Destination Experience
Guests at Dunalastair Hotel Suites may also enjoy access to the facilities and dining experiences at sister property Loch Rannoch Hotel, Estate & Spa, located just minutes away on the shores of Loch Rannoch. Spa access will be complimentary for guests staying throughout April, after which an optional resort fee applies. There, visitors can enjoy:
- Spa and fitness facilities including a 12-metre swimming pool, sauna, steam room, relaxation rooms and three treatment rooms
- The new Woodland Spa (launching Summer 2026)
- Expansive estate grounds with lochside views
- Gourmet dining at the AA Rosette-awarded Estate Room, showcasing the best of Scottish produce
Beyond the hotel, the surrounding landscape offers year-round adventure – from hiking, canoeing and sailing to wild swimming, fishing and traditional Highland pursuits including deer stalking and seasonal shooting.
