Red Sea Global has opened Equinox Resort AMAALA at Triple Bay on Saudi Arabia’s north-west coast, the first Equinox Hotels property outside the United States and only the second in the world after the brand’s New York flagship at Hudson Yards.

The resort sits within Marina Village at Triple Bay and has 128 rooms and suites in six categories, including two penthouse suites, with 21 branded residences alongside. Foster + Partners handled the architecture and Rockwell Group the interiors, taking cues from the coastline, the marine environment and the mountains behind the bay.

The centrepiece for time-pressed travellers is 704 sqm of indoor and outdoor training space, which Red Sea Global says is the largest fitness facility anywhere in AMAALA. That matters for anyone who has arrived at a five-star resort to find a treadmill and a rack of dumbbells squeezed into a converted meeting room.
The bedrooms have been designed with jet lag in mind. Drawing on the sleep science work Equinox Hotels developed in New York, rooms use circadian lighting tuned to the body clock, heavy acoustic isolation to cut disturbance and precise climate control to help guests rest properly. For a traveller landing from a UK overnight flight and facing a full day of meetings, that is a more useful selling point than a view.
Recovery is handled in a 1,602 sqm spa built around the brand’s own Equinox X Circuit, a seven-stage regeneration programme. Treatments and technology on offer include cryotherapy, infrared sauna, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, hydrotherapy and contrast temperature therapies. There are also four outdoor pools, among them a lap pool and a rooftop magnesium salt pool looking out over Triple Bay, the AMAALA Marina and the AMAALA Yacht Club.
Dining follows what the operator calls an indulgently healthy approach, spread across four venues: Mint + Co, Soho Souk, Sama Ai and EQX Den. Each is positioned as a distinct experience while staying within the resort’s high-performance philosophy, which in practice should mean menus that do not force a choice between a decent dinner and a decent workout the next morning.

Equinox joins a destination that Red Sea Global is developing specifically around wellness, sport, culture and lifestyle. Six Senses was the first operator to open at AMAALA, and the developer has already set out its wellness ambitions for the destination. When complete, AMAALA is planned to have more than 1,600 hotel rooms across nine resorts, plus branded residences, a marina and a mix of retail and dining.
