Finnair has taken a major step in modernising its short‑haul fleet, signing a firm order for 18 Embraer E195‑E2 aircraft, alongside 16 options and 12 purchase rights.
The carrier has also secured spare engines and maintenance services from Pratt & Whitney for the PW1900G GTF engines powering the new jets.
In a parallel move, Finnair plans to source up to twelve Airbus A320/321ceos from the used market to replace its oldest A319s and A320s over the coming years.
CEO Turkka Kuusisto said the combined new‑build and used‑aircraft strategy supports both growth and profitability. “This mix of new and used aircraft supports our growth and profitability targets in an optimal way… Introduction of the new E195‑E2 aircraft to our fleet also reduces our CO₂ footprint, advancing our climate targets,” he noted.
