IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed its first property in Surat, Gujarat, with a 110-key Holiday Inn Express on Gauravpath set to open in 2029, targeting business and transit travellers.

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement to bring a Holiday Inn Express to Surat, marking the group’s first property in what is widely regarded as Gujarat’s most commercially dynamic city.

The 110-key Holiday Inn Express Surat Gauravpath, developed in partnership with Yashvi Greenco LLP, is scheduled to open in 2029 as part of a mixed-use development along the city’s fast-expanding Gauravpath corridor.

For business travellers, the signing reflects a broader pattern of international hotel brands following India’s commercial growth beyond the established gateway cities. Surat, known globally as the diamond city for its dominance in the diamond polishing trade, has seen sustained economic expansion driven by its industrial base and ongoing infrastructure investment. The city generates significant corporate and SME travel demand, alongside a steady flow of transit visitors.

Holiday Inn Express is IHG’s largest and fastest-growing brand, with more than 3,200 properties worldwide. The Surat property will feature the brand’s Generation 5 design, which emphasises flexible workspaces and refreshed interiors pitched squarely at the needs of business and bleisure guests who prioritise efficiency without sacrificing comfort.

The signing underscores IHG’s strategy of expanding its footprint across India’s high-growth secondary markets, where rising commercial activity is creating fresh demand for internationally branded, mid-market accommodation. For road warriors working the subcontinent, it means one more reliable option in a city that has long been underserved by the major chains.
