IHG Hotels & Resorts has stepped up its push into southern India with the signing of a new Holiday Inn at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu, as the FTSE 100 hospitality group looks to capture rising corporate demand from one of the country’s fastest-growing industrial corridors.

The 200-key property, scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2029, will be developed under a management agreement with Thanishq Grande Hotels & Resorts. It marks the third tie-up between the two companies and adds further weight to IHG’s India pipeline, where the operator is increasingly targeting commercial centres beyond the established metropolitan markets.

Sriperumbudur, some 40 kilometres west of Chennai, has emerged as a magnet for international manufacturers. The town houses plants for major global automotive and electronics names, sits on the Chennai–Bangalore highway corridor and benefits from its proximity to Chennai port. The Aerospace Park at Vallam Vadagal, alongside facilities under the Software Technology Parks of India scheme, has further cemented its status as a heavy-volume business-travel destination.

Sudeep Jain, managing director, South West Asia at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said the deal reflected the group’s strategy of expanding into “key commercial centres with high growth potential”. He added: “With its strategic location and trusted brand proposition, the hotel will be well positioned to serve the growing needs of business and spiritual travellers in the region. This marks our third hotel signing with Thanishq Grande Hotels & Resorts, and we are pleased to strengthen our partnership as we bring this project to life.”

Beyond the corporate market, the operator is also banking on faith-based travel, Sriperumbudur is the birthplace of the 11th-century philosopher Ramanuja and draws a steady flow of pilgrims to its temples, as well as transit visitors using the highway corridor between Chennai and Bengaluru.

Holiday Inn Sriperumbudur will offer a mix of standard rooms and suites across its 200 keys, three food-and-beverage outlets, a ballroom geared towards mid-sized corporate events, a swimming pool and a fitness centre. The fit-out is intended to position the hotel as a one-stop option for business travellers needing meeting space, accommodation and leisure facilities under a single roof.

The signing underscores the continued momentum in branded hospitality across India’s tier-two markets. With logistics and warehousing capacity expanding rapidly along the Chennai industrial belt, demand for mid-scale, internationally branded rooms has consistently outpaced supply, a gap that operators including IHG, Marriott and Accor have all been racing to close.

Holiday Inn remains one of IHG’s flagship brands globally and in India, positioned by the group as a dependable mid-market option blending business and leisure stays. The Sriperumbudur opening will join a growing roster of Holiday Inn properties across the subcontinent as the operator continues to deepen its footprint in high-growth Indian markets.
