London Luton Airport has taken a major step forward in passenger safety, becoming the first airport in the UK to install emergency Anaphylaxis Kitts across its terminal.
The wall‑mounted kits, created by Kitt Medical, are designed to provide rapid, accessible treatment for severe allergic reactions — a life‑threatening condition that can occur within minutes and affect millions of people nationwide. The rollout is supported by mandatory staff training, with hundreds of team members already trained in the first few days of deployment.
Anaphylaxis affects around 2.5 million people in the UK, and with millions of passengers and thousands of staff passing through Luton each year, the airport’s decision marks a significant upgrade in emergency care . More than ten kits have been installed in key locations including the Security Hall, Departure Lounge, Immigration and Baggage Reclaim, ensuring immediate access wherever an incident may occur .
The kits function much like a defibrillator: they are highly visible, easy to use and come with clear instructions inside, allowing any trained or untrained individual to administer emergency adrenaline in a crisis . Although purchased to protect staff at risk of severe allergic reactions, the kits can be used for any passenger or visitor experiencing anaphylaxis, offering reassurance to travellers who may be anxious about flying with allergies .
Dan Cartwright, Head of Airfield Operations, said the initiative strengthens Luton’s wider partnership with the East of England Ambulance Service, ensuring airport teams are equipped to respond to serious medical emergencies while awaiting paramedics . Kitt Medical’s founder, Zak Marks, described the rollout as a milestone for allergy sufferers, noting the comfort that comes from knowing emergency adrenaline pens are available throughout the airport .
The programme is part of Luton Airport’s ongoing commitment to health, safety and innovation. The airport has recently been recognised for accessibility, sustainability and operational excellence, including a “Very Good” rating in the CAA’s assisted travel report and Level 4 Airport Carbon Accreditation for transforming operations in line with global climate goals .
