Michelin is retiring its Green Star distinction and replacing it with Mindful Voices, a new global editorial platform designed to spotlight the chefs, hoteliers and wine producers shaping the future of responsible hospitality.

The Green Star, introduced in 2020, recognised restaurants with strong sustainability practices. But Michelin’s world has expanded. With the arrival of Michelin Keys for hotels and Michelin Grapes for wine, the organisation says its sustainability storytelling needs to stretch beyond restaurants. Mindful Voices is the answer: a people‑focused platform that spans gastronomy, hotels and vineyards across more than 60 destinations.

Launching 1 June at the Nordic Countries Ceremony in Copenhagen, Mindful Voices will feature profiles, interviews and stories highlighting individuals “innovating and launching inspiring initiatives” across the industry. The emphasis shifts from awarding a badge to amplifying the people driving change – from regenerative winemakers to chefs rethinking supply chains and hoteliers redefining community engagement.

Michelin’s International Director, Gwendal Poullennec, says the platform reflects what inspectors are witnessing worldwide: encounters and ideas “transforming how things are done” and deserving a global stage. By retiring the Green Star, Michelin isn’t stepping back from sustainability; it’s reframing it. The future, it argues, lies in storytelling rather than symbols and in elevating the voices shaping hospitality’s next chapter.
