Ibiza’s historic Dalt Vila fortress is set to welcome its first guests this month as a new Parador opens following a 17‑year transformation of the 16th‑century complex.
The project, originally conceived in 2004, set out to convert the long‑closed fortress – unused since the 1980s – into a heritage‑led hotel. Construction began in 2009 but was repeatedly reshaped after significant archaeological remains were uncovered on site, prompting a full redesign and a substantial increase in investment.
The completed property features 41 rooms across five interconnected buildings, along with a wellness area, outdoor pool, restaurant, café and terraces overlooking Ibiza’s harbour and cathedral. One of its most distinctive elements is the integration of nine archaeological test pits, now preserved as museum pieces within an interpretation centre that will be open to both guests and the wider public.
The opening marks a major addition to Ibiza’s cultural offering, with expectations of strong early occupancy and a clear ambition to broaden the island’s appeal beyond its traditional summer season.
