Business travellers heading to Italy this week should prepare for significant disruption as nationwide strikes affect both air and rail services.
Pilots, cabin crew and airport ground staff including teams at ITA Airways and easyJet will stage a 24‑hour walkout on Thursday 26 February, impacting major airports such as Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, Rome Fiumicino, Venice and Verona.
ITA Airways has already cancelled more than half of its scheduled flights for the day and warns that delays may continue as operations stabilise. Passengers on cancelled flights, or those delayed by more than five hours, are eligible for rebooking or refunds.
Rail travel will also be affected, with a national strike running from Friday evening to Saturday evening, reducing services across operators including Trenitalia, Italo and Trenord. Travellers should expect delays before and after the official strike window.
An additional eight‑hour strike by air traffic controllers at Rome Fiumicino on 7 March is expected to cause further disruption next week.
For business travellers, monitoring schedules closely and allowing extra time will be essential to keeping itineraries on track.
