Uber is introducing a new way to chase the Northern Lights, announcing a limited run of free aurora‑viewing rides in Finnish Lapland this month.
The service, called Uber Aurora, will operate in Rovaniemi on 20–21 March, coinciding with the spring equinox — a period known for heightened auroral activity.
The initiative marks the first time the company has built Northern Lights experiences directly into its app. Travellers will be able to request a dedicated vehicle for an extended night‑time excursion, with each trip lasting between six and eight hours and led by local guides from Arctic GM. Pick‑up and drop‑off are included, and the experience is offered at no cost, though availability is capped. Bookings open on 5 March at 1pm local time.
The launch comes as Lapland prepares for what scientists expect to be an especially active aurora season, with 2026 predicted to deliver strong viewing conditions following the current peak in solar activity. The region already attracts visitors from around the world hoping to witness the phenomenon, and Uber says the new service is designed to make the experience easier to access for both tourists and locals.
Uber Aurora follows the company’s recent experiments with winter‑focused mobility, including the debut of Uber Snowmobile in the Dolomites ahead of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
