The UK Foreign Office has issued updated travel advice for Mexico after a series of violent incidents across multiple states.
The new guidance advises against all but essential travel to several western regions, including Acapulco and parts of Jalisco, where unrest has intensified following a major law‑enforcement operation.
The advisory notes that security incidents have also been reported in other areas of the country, including tourist zones in Quintana Roo and Oaxaca. Travellers already in Mexico are urged to stay alert, follow local security instructions and limit movement in affected regions.
In Jalisco, authorities have issued shelter‑in‑place guidance in some areas, with reports of blocked roads, disrupted local transport and flight cancellations at airports in Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. Routes to airports may be restricted, and airlines have diverted or cancelled services at short notice. Travellers are advised to check with their airline before heading to the airport and be prepared for delays or changes to routes.
The Foreign Office highlights that conditions remain fluid, and disruptions to transport and services may continue as authorities respond to the situation. Travellers should monitor official updates closely and remain vigilant throughout their journey.
