UK business travellers with clients or interests on the Costa del Sol have a strong reason to time their trips carefully this year.

The Starlite Occident festival is back in Marbella from June to August 2026 with one of the biggest bills in its history, headlined by Maroon 5, John Legend, Lenny Kravitz, Rick Astley, Anastacia, the Gipsy Kings, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Deep Purple and Kool & The Gang.

For SMEs, the appeal is practical as much as glamorous. Malaga is among the easiest Spanish airports to reach nonstop from the UK, with carriers including Jet2 adding capacity in their biggest ever summer 2026 programmes, and Marbella sits a short transfer from the terminal. That makes a festival evening an easy bolt-on to a coastal business trip, whether as client hospitality or a bleisure reward at the end of a working week.

An amphitheatre built for entertaining clients

Now in its 14th edition, Starlite Occident has built a reputation as one of Europe’s most exclusive boutique festivals. Concerts take place in an open-air amphitheatre set into a former quarry at Nagüeles, a compact venue where the audience sits unusually close to the stage. For anyone hosting contacts rather than simply attending, the site offers more than music. On-site restaurants include Tanabata, Temazo, Sandra’s Caviar Bar and Ánima, while the Starlite Night Club runs DJ sets and special performances into the early hours.

Diary planners should note the key dates: Lenny Kravitz (29 June), Gipsy Kings (3 July), Maroon 5 (7 July), Rick Astley (10 July), Anastacia (14 July), John Legend (20 July), Kool & The Gang (23 July) and Nile Rodgers & CHIC (26 August).

A five-star base in the old town

The hotel positioning itself as the natural festival address is El Fuerte Marbella, the only five-star property in Marbella’s old town. It sits a five-minute walk from the old town centre and roughly 15 minutes by car from the festival site, with El Puerto Deportivo, the hub of Marbella’s nightlife, close by. First opened in 1957 and reworked in 2023, the property has a long celebrity history of its own, counting Penélope Cruz and Walt Disney among past guests.

Facilities lean towards recovery after a late night. There are two pools in landscaped gardens, one reserved for adults, alongside an outdoor hot tub, beach club and gym. Spa by Clarins occupies a low-lit lower level with a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room and six treatment rooms. Dining spans Le Marché, where the breakfast buffet comes with Mediterranean views, the beachfront Soleo Beach Club and Levante, which pairs the Andalusian larder with international ingredients. The hotel arrives at a busy moment for the coast’s luxury market, which also saw Kimpton open Los Monteros nearby.

Costs and a lower-priced day pass

Rooms at El Fuerte Marbella start from €390 per night for a Standard Double, with breakfast for two included. New for 2026 is a Day Pass from €79.50 per person, giving non-residents a premium sunbed by the pool or beach from 11am to 7pm plus access to the hotel’s VIP area, with half the booking value returned as credit at Bar Levante. For a small firm entertaining contacts before an evening concert, that is a far gentler outlay than a room block, and it works equally well for travellers staying elsewhere on the Costa del Sol. With headline nights likely to sell through quickly, booking flights, tickets and beds together, and early, is the sensible play.
