Mammoth Lakes is a Californian town near Mammoth Mountain and the Long Valley Caldera in the Eastern Sierra region of California.

As such it is a summer base for fresh mountain air, outdoor pursuits and annual events.

Mammoth Lakes offers short easy walking trails, while hikers will discover secret alpine lakes, lush aspen lined streams and forested glades in the mountains.

The trails link to the Pacific Crest and John Muir Trails. Mountain bikers can get into the Inyo National Forest’s vast network of trails and unpaved roads. There is also the chance to enjoy the lakes with paddleboarding and kayaking.

The Mammoth Lakes Basin and the June Lake Loop offer seven paddle-accessible lakes, one of the favourites is paddleboarding on Horseshoe Lake.

Among the calendar of annual events :

  • The Mammoth JazzFest (11 and 12 July 2025) brings fine jazz musicians to the town
  • the Mammoth Festival of Beers (31 July to 3 August 2025) celebrates the town’s many craft breweries
  • Mammoth Margarita Festival (8 and 9 August 2025) offers Margaritas and live music in the Village Plaza
  • Eastern Sierra Pride (every June) at Canyon Lodge on Mammoth Mountain Ski Area includes an all-star drag show, music and entertainment and dance.
